Shape

The term shape is used to describe the overall appearance of the stone.  The predominate shape used in diamonds is round, also termed the brilliant cut.  Every other shape other than round is referred to as a fancy cut. These shapes, also referred to as cuts, include pear, marquise, oval, cushion, princess, heart or emerald.
